I was able to get out with my friends again. I had a blast at a few parties this weekend!

After a weekend of taking it easier and trying to recover from her wisdom teeth surgery this week Emelia was working diligently at trying to mange the pain and bring down the swelling. Last weekend, both of her cheeks were puffed up like she was a squirrel collecting nuts for hibernation. And while they looked equally puffed out, she was definitely having more pain on the right side. So much so that she was concerned she had dry socket. But, as the week wore on she was needing to take the pain meds less and the pain was also starting to lessen. She’s definitely not pain free, but given how much the swelling has gone down I do think she is on the mend.
With the healing moving in the right direction, Emelia was able to take in a full practice on Tuesday with Sov doing partially modified routine to protect her head and jaw. By today, she was back to all out which was great to see. She was a little tired but that was her own working as she and her besties Halloween party hopped last night and didn’t get home until 2:30am after getting a ride home from Mom Uber which also meant Danielle had a late night too. But practice went well today and their team looks to be making great progress. In fact this team looks to be in the best shape that any of hers have looked before the first comp in five seasons!
Emelia has really been in the thick of this year with school. She’s really been focused on getting through best grades she can – especially this semester – with the hopes of getting early acceptance. She’s been a lot more diligent and focused about staying on top of her course work and she’s actually taken on advocating for herself with her teachers and getting a better understanding of grades she’s not happy with. It’s actually been really great to see her flourish going from a kid years ago that had learning issues that slid under the radar because she wasn’t a problem kid, to someone who is getting great grades but always wants to do better.
Lastly this week, yes of course cycling continued. But I put in some serious kilometres to my year-end goal of hitting 10,000km on the year, this week. The daily 25km rides continued but on Thursday with the day off, I went out with designs on doing the longer 45km ride I do on days off, but with the amazing weather, I decided to push out an even longer 60km route. And then today, I was off so for the first time in a while I got to go on the LCC Sunday Group Ride. So, this morning I tacked on another 55km to my week today. And, with all that distance this week, I find myself 404km away from hitting 10,000km—a full two months & few days from the end of the year!

This week was still focusing on Emelia’s recovery from her wisdom teeth removal, each day she was feeling better and I would say at this point she is about 90% there. She is still dealing with some pain but has been able to move more and more to regular food, back to most of her activities. By this weekend she was able to get out with her friends and back to cheer.
On Monday Emelia returned to school, she was still really sore and not able to eat a lot. She made is about 75% way though the day before messaging me if she could come home and rest. She was still at this time taking pain meds every 3-4 hours to keep things under control. As the days went on she was able to stretch the meds out longer and longer. Tuesday rolls around and she was still really puffy and the bruising had kicked in. She wasn’t sure how much training she could do so her friend from Valour (Emelia’s other team) was able to come to practice to fill in as Emelia needed help. Emelia was able to do about 90% of the modified full out and the team was looking amazing. So much that they hit zero their second run through. This is hands down the best any team she has been on has looked this point in the season. What this meant was their coach could focus more on cleaning up motions and timing of jumps and tumbling. The girls left practice really proud of themselves and they should be they have worked so hard.
By Thursday Emelia was feeling well enough to return to her regular cheer practice for her second team and was laser focused on mapping out their weekend plans. Emelia and her best friends were all making Halloween party plans. The big party for the whole group was on Saturday. Emelia and her extended friend group were all going to a friends party out on the west end. We dropped Emelia off at her besties place because John and I had plans for the night. Earlier in the week John and Emelia had surprised me with tickets for my birthday. Much to my surprise John was able to get us tickets to one of our favourite bands The Arkells. They put on the most amazing high energy live show. The whole night was incredible.
Once we were home we messaged Emelia to let her know we were home as I was acting as Mom Uber for the partying teenagers. About an hour after we got home the call came to see if I could pick her and the girls on and transport them to Halloween gathering number 2. This second one was much lower key as it was just a bunch of the kids from school hanging out together. I picked up the two girls at the end of the night well after 2:00 in the morning and got them home so we could all crash. We warned Emelia heavily that she had cheer and work today so there would be no excuses for her late night of partying with her friends impacting training at all. She went to cheer today and the girls gave it their all and put in two full outs. The real countdown is on with their first competition in 2 weeks.
