I had a great week! Friday was our Senior Sunrise and this weekend I went to a party with all my friends and we had the best time.

We continued to navigate this nasty bug that has made its way through the entire household. And while we’re all on the back side of it, we’re all working through a nagging cough that just lingers on. And on. Emelia who was first to get it – and got it the worst of it – seems to be in the front of us, and Danielle and I seem to be in the same same spot dealing with a stubborn, persistent hack that just doesn’t seem to want to go away. We’re okay for the most part through the day but by the time we lie down in bed the congestion resumes and makes sleeping difficult at best. This cold has been no joke and an absolute pain in the keister. And while we’ve tested for negative for COVID, I am guessing that our previous run-ins have made the recovery from this bug all the more slower.
Originally with having Saturday off this weekend, Danielle & I thought we might sneak off to the trailer as soon as I was done work on Friday and spend the night and the next day there before coming back later Saturday evening. But, about half way through the day Friday, given that it was launch weekend at the store we made the decision to stay home rather than drive to the trailer after my close. At best we’d make it to the trailer by 11:30pm, and realistically we wouldn’t even get 24 hours up there. As I left the store Friday night at 9:30pm I never felt more reassured about our decision to stay home. I was exhausted, and all I wanted to do was relax with Danielle and not spend and hour more in the truck to get up to the trailer.
That also meant we could have a good sleep in yesterday and spend the day together at home, relaxing. While the vantage point at the trailer is nicer, so was the not having to drive. And it allowed us to get in a longer bike ride on the Thames Valley Parkway together to the tune of 44km in absolute stunning late summer weather on the first day of autumn. And then that also gave us the opportunity to spend the afternoon over at one of Danielle’s former co-workers and close friend Courtney’s house for a swim and visit with her family. Courtney has a daughter the same age as Emelia, and she & Danielle have been scheming for some time to get the two together to hang out as they have a lot of mutual friends and interests. They’re getting that much closer making that a reality much to the Moms delight. But unfortunately, Emelia’s Saturday schedule meant she wasn’t able to make it, but for sure it will happen, and for sure they will be good friends as the girls are so eerily similar.
Emelia has fallen into the routine of school and seems to be really focused this semester on doing her best to give herself the best chance to get acceptance and early at that, at Kings. She’s been really focused on her classes and keeping on top of her school work and marks. Last year with getting sick and then also working through both the passing of her Uncle Greg and then her Poppa, she got behind on school work and found that really challenging. What that has mean this year is she is being much more proactive in attempt to avoid ever landing back in that spot. She is still dead set on applying to her one and only at Kings and doing that program, so she is dialled on giving herself the best chance at achieving that and it’s great to see her with this level of focus!
Lastly, this week Danielle and I crossed a silver milestone. Wednesday was our 25th wedding anniversary and actually our 36th year of being together. When I was talking about this day coming up in the last month at work, the conversation quickly turned to what our big plans were—thinking we would be taking big trip somewhere extravagant. I politely explained that if they thought that was what we were going to do, they didn’t really know us. Danielle is as lowkey as they come and we both only ever want time together but don’t need a big deal to be made. So Wednesday being the day, we went out for dinner together at one our favourite places and then came home and spent a quite night together. And it was perfect. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Although John and I continue to battle this bug we were able to have a great week in spite of it. The big event for John and I this week was celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on Wednesday. In pure us fashion we had a quiet night, no big celebration just a quiet night out for dinner just the two of us. All we really wanted was to have a night with just us. A conversation that I had with John’s oldest brother the day of Doug’s celebration of life when he asked what we were doing for our anniversary. I said we really didn’t have any big plans, he just looked at me and said celebrate all the moments, it was a milestone that he and Linda never met when she passed in 2019. As we have found out more than most families in the last 5 years, life is so short, tomorrow is not guaranteed. So John and I made sure we celebrated this milestone in our life together. We are grateful we got to celebrate the day and we never take for granted that not everyone gets to celebrate 25 year of marriage.
The rest of our week was balancing all of our normal life, ensuring that Emelia got to all her training, ensuring that she is staying on top of her school work so she can reach her goal next year to move on to Kings. Her high school years have gone by so fast. All the rights of passage for Senior year are already starting. Last week the graduating class all met at the school before the sun came up to spend their morning together watching their Senior Sunrise. Emelia and her best friends stayed over together and made it to school so see the sun come up over the football field. Emelia said it was a great time and they are loving all the moments together knowing this year will go by so fast.
This weekend we got to spend some times with some incredible friends. As John mentioned one of my close friends who used to work at Western with me have been determined to get our daughters together. They are the same age and honestly are so much alike. The girls chat over social media but have yet to meet face to face. The plan last weekend was supposed to have both families to get together but unfortunately Niamh had a medical emergency that landed her in the hospital. So now home my friend Courtney asked if John and I wanted to come over for a swim and visit. Emelia was unable to go but Niamh hung out with us for the afternoon. We chatted and the girls are making plans to go to HOCO at Western next weekend and the Ilderton Fair. Emelia is determined to have Niamh blend into her friend group knowing they will all hit it off. As Courtney and I said our two year plan is finally coming together so the girls can be as close as she and I have become!
Today we were back in our normal Sunday routine, after a very late night last night for Emelia at a party with friends I picked her up at her best friends in time to get her packed up for cheer training. The routine is coming together fast so much that they will be doing fallout practices very soon. The countdown to their first competition is coming up fast, it is only 7 weeks away! It will be here before we know it.
