Happy Father’s Day

I had the best week! I got to spend Friday night with all my friends at my friend Quinn’s at her pool party.

This was another one of those weeks where it didn’t feel like there was a lot but it aways seemed like we were heading to something and didn’t have a lot of time to gather moss. Emelia back in Cheer proper so that has added to the busyness of our weeks. But also add that she’s well into the softball season, has a part time job, a school and a social life and it pretty much fills out our weekly calendar in a hurry. This week was no exception. Especially when you add in that her school year is wrapping up. There is end of year projects due, tests and exams as well as wrap up to a lot of her athletic season.

Monday both Emelia and I worked. But, Tuesday was a day she was looking forward to for some time: The Lucas Athletic Banquet. It did mean she missed a Cheer practice which she was bummed about, but she was looking forward to the Athletic Banquet since the start of the year. She added Rugby to her repertoire this year and already has thoughts about adding track & field and wrestling in addition to rugby next year. She’s really embraced the sport aspect of Lucas and become part of the same sort of identity she has gained through sport in her personal life – first in gymnastics, but now in cheer and softball. She and the twins were all fancied up and off to the event just after 6:00pm. And by all accounts she had a lot of fun.

Thankfully it looked like Wednesday was the first night that Emelia (and, us as a result) had our first, free night. That didn’t last long, but I will leave that story for Danielle as it involves more of her than it does me. Thursday ended up being a day off work for me, but in keeping with the theme of the week, my dance card was pretty full: at 9am I was volunteering for an hour with my work team to do garbage cleanup at Springbank Park. After that I got in a longer ride on the TVP before getting my (long, overdue) hair cut. From there it was straight to pick up Emelia and the twins from school, dropping them off at home before working on Mom & Dad’s grocery list and dropping it off with them and have a visit at Oakcrossing. Before I knew it, it was already dinner time and we were getting ready for Emelia’s softball game in Byron. Unfortunately, the weather had a different idea and the game was cancelled (after the girls got a bit soaked waiting for the umps to make a decision).

I managed to have an extra day off this week on Saturday which allowed Danielle & I sneak off to the trailer for the night Friday after I was done work. It also allowed Emelia to stay home and attend a party (more on that from Danielle I’m sure). After a great evening at the Sherwood’s fire pit and some drinks we were off to bed. The next day we got in a longer 40km ride on the G2G Rail Trail and then puttered around for the afternoon, before heading back to London, in time to get Emelia to work. We had a pretty lowkey evening which led into today which was a day of work and then getting spoiled to the hilt after work by Danielle, and Emelia for Father’s Day. Got to go for bike ride with D, had an amazing steak supper and got the most amazing Run DMC shirt from Emelia that I’ve wanted since I was a teenager. It may have felt like a busy week, but it was filled with all the best things!

I feel like I start every post with the same sentence, man we had a busy week. This week we added in not only Emelia’s schedule we were getting Helen settled back into Oakcrossing after a stretch in the hospital. She is improving thankfully but it was a long and stressful week waiting for her to get better. John had summed up the craziness of the week well but I will add a bit as well. We are in full swing for Emelia and her new cheer season. Emelia has come out of every practice and training clinic beaming. She is loving her new team and the various stunt group combos they have been playing around with. She says everyone works so hard and had incredible work ethics. Something that Emelia loves. She is so confident in this team that she really feels they will do really well this season. This season they are changing things around and adding more specialized training early in the season, all hoping that this sets up for success. Last weekend they had specialized trainers in working on tumbling technique and timing, this weekend it was all about stunting. They even moved up the choreography camp from August to July so they are able to work on perfecting them earlier in the year. All in all things are looking great so far.

Ok back to the rest of our week which was work, softball, an athletic banquet, cheer, a party and throw in a few piercings. As John mentioned we had a rare night off Wednesday night. John was at work so it was just Emelia and I. Emelia and one of her best friends had been planning for a while that they would go together to get a piercing together, well Carys failed to ask her parents so Emelia went with Anna to the mall instead. So our night off was a trip to the mall to get one of the two piercings Emelia had planned, Wednesday she got her third helix piercing  and today we went back to get her third lobe done.

The rest of the week was a blur until John and I were able to pack up and head to the trailer. Emelia stayed home again for the night because she had plans for the night. Her friend Quinn had invited all their friends for a pool party, all 25 of them. Emelia’s friends group has blown up and we are loving it. She is constantly on the go and is just living for all that high school has to offer. Gone is the super shy girl and replaced is this social kid who has a huge social network. We are so proud of this kid and everything she has overcome to be where she is now. She realized she is worth so much more than she thought she deserved. Take on the world girl, your potential is endless!

And now finally I want to end today’s post talking about Father’s Day. By true nature of John and I he wanted a quiet night with his family. Nothing big just time together, a bike ride together, good food and his girls. When you fall in love with someone and want a family you are not only choosing a partner for your life but also a father to your children. I could not have asked for a better partner in life and Emelia could not ask for a bigger champion that she gets to call dad. We love you John with all our hearts! Thanks for being the best dad our girl could ever ask for!
