Happy Haunting! 👻

I redecorated my room this weekend and I am really happy with how it turned out. Also tonight is Halloween!!

One of the greatest funs of adulting is when appliances stop working. I know that I am validating every one of my 50 years alive when I say that they don’t make appliances like the used to, but for Danielle & I, we don’t have a great track record with appliances—dishwashers especially. The Kitchen-Aid one that we have has been a piece of crap since we got it. The racks have broken multiple times and we’ve replaced the clips. Then there were at least 2 major repairs that required a repairman to come fix. When the control panel/door handle broke in our hand when opening the door about a month ago and the attempt to glue the stupid crappy plastic nuts did not work, we found out that we could order the replacement part for $250US before shipping.

Screw that noise!

So we accepted that it was time to buy dishwasher number 4! We started researching and the names that came up where Bosch, Whirlpool and LG. Bosch are increasingly hard to find in stock because of their popularity. With life at the trailer ending last weekend the focus on the dishwasher replacement was this week’s priority. Danielle & Emelia did some recon this week and had landed on an LG model at Home Depot. We’ve had an LG fridge since before Emelia was born and it’s worked like a charm. The same goes for our TV. So it became the one we looked for. Well yesterday we did a deeper dive with Emelia off at her first high school party, and we managed to find an amazing deal on an LG floor model on clearance at Lowes and saved about $350 from for essentially the same model Danielle & Emelia found at Home Depot for the win!

And the even better news is my old pal Ryan whom I ran the roller hockey league with, who has an amazing home renovations company called Revival Renovations had the name of a retired plumber who still dabbles and would be able to help us pull out the old dishwasher and install the new one. So, all things being equal, the new one should be in by the post next week and we’re on to much more interesting topics here on the blog. And hopefully this model will be much better than the last piece of crap!

This week we had a follow up appointment with our family Dr. to go over how things were going for Emelia with her meds and since transitioning to high school and it was so great for him to be able to see and comment on the transformation he’s seen in her since the first, second and now this the third appointment with her since September. We have definitely noticed a huge difference in her as she talks our ears off and we love it. But, it was so validating to hear Dr. Esterbauer go on and on about the change he has seen in her in such a short time, but he is not wrong.

Lastly, the cycling (it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t find a way to bring that into conversation)… I have some upgrades in my gear that will hopefully allow me to push the rides outside into the latest part of the season as possible. Last year I made it to November 20th as my last outdoor bike ride and my goal is to beat that this year—even if it is only one day. I picked up a cycling rain jacket that had made a world of difference already. I have a great set of fall/winter gloves. The last in the mix is a set cycling rain pants which should arrive in the next day or so. I’ve definitely already rode more rainy and wet days this month than I did all last year so I am already happy with the result. Can’t wait to see what difference the pants makes.

This was another really busy week. The week started out with another appointment for Emelia with our family doctor to assess her meds and to see if there was any more changes needed to her levels. She is doing absolutely amazing at the levels in both meds that we are staying at the same level. She is a completely different kid. She is thriving in school, socially and at cheer. As her parents we could not be happier for her.

This week was also a big one for Emelia, she was invited to her first high school party. Saturday, she and Anna went off to another friends for a halloween party. The girls came home, happy, tired and talking our ear off about all the fun they had. It is such a change for all the girls. They started out nervous trying to find their own way and now are making tons of friends.

During the week it was a full one for her. She had an extra cheer practice but this one was to meet with the dance choreographer. Emelia came home thrilled and talking my ear off about all that they learned and how nice he was. The team posted a video on the private group to show the parents and it is looking great already. We are starting the countdown to the first comp and the kids cannot wait.

The rest of the week was long hours again at work and doing annoying grown up things. The big one as John mentioned was replacing our dishwasher. We really lucked out, after hearing horror stories of long waits for just about anything these days we were thrilled to get a floor model, not only did it save us a ton of money it meant we could take it home today and install it later this week. Being a grown-up really sucks sometimes!

Tonight Emelia is having some friends over for Halloween. They plan on hanging out, hand out some candy, maybe trick or treat for a while and then back here to watch a horror movie.

That was our week, another busy one for sure.
