I can’t wait to get back to cheerleading and train with my new team!

For the third weekend in a row, Danielle & I were able to make it up to the trailer. While they have all been overnight trips only, we have already made it up there more than we had last year at this time as we were dealing with a lot of Mom’s rapidly declining health. So, it has been good to get more use out of the trailer. And, with this trip this weekend we finally got the trailer into what feels like, form for the season. Sure, there will always be a list of things we want to do, but those always exist. It, definitely feels like the theme of relaxing and getting away will be the prime objectives of going to the trailer going forward which is great news as tomorrow we turn to June and our first official week away there, is at the end of the month over Canada Day week!
The big project this week was finally pressure washing the deck. When we took over the site it came with a newish deck which was great. But the site itself had been poorly maintained for about a year or two. Including the deck. We probably should have done this way back then but there were other priorities ahead of it. Saturday afternoon before heading back to London, we finally pressure washed the deck to get rid of the 2-3 years of leaf matter, algae and/or mildew. If it rained our deck could be a death trap where you could go for an unexpected skate across it. Even worse when you’re in cycling cleats. Hopefully the two hours of work it took has resolved that. At the very least it looks a million times better.
The other added bonus of being able to get away to the trailer three weekends in a row is that I have also gotten in gravel rides on the G2G. With the race season starting to kick into full gear, it is good to get in some consistent practice on legit gravel trails. We have had stellar weather the last three weekends so it has been great to get those trail kilometres in my legs before the next race of my season this weekend in the Substance Projects: Screaming Squirrel gravel race in Mono, Ontario on Sunday. Danielle will be coming with me to join in the fun and volunteer for the event and it will be fun to have her along for another race.
Lastly, the final version of Emelia’s Valiant team roster was revealed this week which meant she will be back to regular practices staring next Tuesday. The squad is as really great mix of new people she is happy to see on the team, the larger nucleus of last year’s team back together and sadly 3 team members moving on elsewhere. She is excited to get going with her season, and so are we to be honest. It will be a long hard road to get back to Florida, but we’re pretty confident with the team that they’ve put together, we will be back there next April.

This week for me has been pretty laid back. It was a nice break in what has been a crazy few weeks and months. Emelia was able to have a solid break this week from cheer after long season. With worlds, tryouts, level up training it felt like she really barely got any time off. But she was able to have last week off and were are about to go back to training next week. Sadly a few of Emelia’s close friends on the team are not coming back but there are some really strong athletes being added making a much larger team this year. Emelia is so excited to get back at it and hoping that she ends up with a strong group. We really feel that this year will be a great one and they can come up with a strong and competitive routine!
With a lighter week we were able to go into the weekend a lot more relaxed, this allowed John and I to go into our overnight to the trailer ready to get a bit more work done but also ready to chill out around the fire, watch the baseball and hockey games and enjoy the night together. After so many months being so busy and a lot stress at work finally feeling like we are moving into the routine of Emelia and hopefully lots of time with her friends. We are moving into our favourite season—it means nights around from the campfire, time with friends and family. After summers dealing with pain and loss we are cherishing this quieter start of the summer, we get to enjoy the quiet moments, whether it means seeing John in his bike races, seeing Emelia and her new team bond and push their limits ready to take on the world, or the small moments with family and friends. This is what life is all about.
