One of the byproducts of switching from the truck to the jeep last years was not having a truck for the one time every two or three years where we really need all of the pickup bed. Usually it is junk removal related but also comes into play when we get new furniture. Thankfully, for Emelia’s basement renovation, a large part of the work that involved the building materials we still had the truck. And when it came to the Christmas present to ourselves, we were able to get Ikea to ship that right to our doorstep. The challenge was however getting all the old furniture to the enviro depot. And for Danielle that couldn’t come soon enough as the temporary place for the furniture and cardboard packaging was our front porch. She was tired of our ramshackle junkyard ‘curb appeal’.
We ended up renting a 10′ moving van from U-Haul which is conveniently just around the corner from us at Miles Variety—the store when Emelia was in grade school would walk over to get candy from. And while it was easier and more convenient when we had the truck, I would not got back from the jeep as it is so much more fnun to drive and still handles 99% of any cargo we need to haul. So, at any rate a week later and longer than Danielle wanted, with a day off work on Wednesday Emelia & I got the porched cleared up of the eyesore collection and dropped of at our city’s enviro depot. I immediately sent Danielle a pic by text and got her appreciative reaction almost instantly. And it all only took a couple of hours.
Danielle was back at work this week, and school started back up for Emelia which meant the entire household was back into the regular routine. Emelia’s schedule is a little different, which gives her Wednesday’s completely off classes, but it does mean that her Monday and Thursdays are packed with classes as a tradeoff. With all of us coming and going in the regular routine, the week flew by in the blink of an eye. Added was Cheer practices started back up, Emelia’s Monday coaching gymnastics was back, there was her work, and of course as always her busy social life with her besties was part of her week. We mostly saw each other in passing this week. This is why I am so happy she was adamant about staying home for her first year at least of university. I can’t imagine how it felt for my parents when I up and shipped off to Windsor at the same age.
As for the bike I am still struck riding inside. We did get an unseasonably warm spell this week that lasted just over 24 hours where I might have been able to sneak in an outdoor ride if it weren’t for my work schedule, but to be honest, it would have been a ride just for the sake of saying I did. I have been surprisingly more accepting of the indoor rides this weather—especially considered the way winter snow and ice keeps battering us more this year than any recent years. I am going to chock this up to having the trainer setup moved upstairs and being able to see outside with the window, as opposed to last year where these rides happened cordoned off in the basement. And, I know that when the weather tips the scales back in outdoor ride’s favour, I will appreciate them all the more!

This week we were all back in the groove. Emelia started her second semester and has a batch of new classes. She instantly realized one of her classes was not a good match but she was able to swap it out for a different class that I really think she will love. She started her other two new classes and has loved them all. She is back in the groove and adjusting to the new semester really well. Slowly over the last week she has some of her grades from last term back. She only had three half year courses (and two full year courses), for her half year credits she has two of the marks back and has two classes she has back are both As, her third class she still does not have it back. All in all she has done so well her first year and we could not be prouder.
For Emelia the rest of the week was getting back in the groove of school, work, social life and cheer training. For cheer training they are back to the real grind. They are pushing the girls to the limits to make sure they are competition ready. The next big competition is the weekend before Emelia’s birthday. This is another bid competition so the girls want to be in their best form to hopefully have a chance at an early bid. What this team has pulled off is nothing but extraordinary. We honestly thought at the beginning of the season it was a long shot that they would get a bid and now they are full of hope and promise. Exactly what we hoped for what is likely Emelia’s last season! To add to the icing on the cake was today, Emelia and her team along with the other world’s team was taken as a big group to the back training gym, put in a circle and presented custom team backpacks for both worlds teams. For Emelia’s team they have really gone all in for their Vali girls theme of the team and the girls bags were glitter bright pink with Valiant on the back of the bags. Emelia and the girls just love them so much. It certainly brought a new level of excitement for the upcoming competition to show these new bags off as a team!
The week was all about getting back in the groove, keeping routines in play and looking forward to the weeks to come. The next few weeks will be so busy for all of us, Emelia’s 19th birthday is only a few weeks away. Add in 4 competitions in the next two months, plus school, social life, our daily lives. We will all be on our toes for sure, and we hope that it is all the right kind of busy!
