Closing out a camp season…

I went with my friends to the Ilderton Fair, we had the best time!

Sadly the conversation this week has turned to planning the end of the trailer season. Given that we moved into October this weekend that shouldn’t be too strange, but still it felt like it really snuck up on us quickly. And to make matters worse, since our last week at the trailer it at the end of August, it had as of this week, been a full month since we had been up to the trailer. Emelia’s return to school, the ramp up of her Cheer schedule, and then, Danielle & my schedules just wasn’t conducive to us getting any time to sneak up there. And while that wasn’t necessarily our favourite outcome for September, to be expected as we are in camp season wind down mode.

However, this weekend that changed as my schedule afforded me the ability to sneak off to Auburn after I got done my beloved, weekly Friday morning hockey romp as I didn’t need to be back in London and to work until Saturday at 11:30am. It meant I could spend a whirlwind 24 hours at the trailer and even get in some much-missed time riding gravel on the G2G Rail Trail which I also hadn’t done in a month. So, a couple hours from having played hockey I was up at the trailer and striking out on the bike to get in a ride to Blyth and back. It was wonderful and I was in my happy place. By the middle of the afternoon I was getting the fire pit going ready to enjoy a beautiful fall afternoon.

When Danielle’s work day wrapped up, she was headed up to the trailer, sans Emelia (which I am sure she will share more about) and we were ready to have a ‘date night’ together at the trailer on our own. She was up and at the trailer in no time and we enjoyed dinner and then the campfire in a much quieter campground. It was so good to be back at the trailer after the month away. The fall colours are starting to come in both in the campground and at the trail which is making it even more scenic than normal. After our nice evening at the fire pit, it was off to bed and then up early to get a ride in on the G2G before heading back to London for work. While it was a very quick 24 hours for me at the trailer it was definitely refuelling for the mind and the soul for sure.

Today was back to the regular routine, but the good news is next weekend is (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend and I have a week off that starts Thursday at 7pm and carries through to the following Thursday. So we will have plenty time as a family to spend at the trailer this weekend as well as I will have time in the following week to button up the trailer and to ride on the G2G. I have been excited about and looking forward to this week/weekend for some time. And, the good news is the Sherwood’s will be up there too, so we can do a trailer Thanksgiving together which will be fun! And the best way to end a camping season! Like always.

Well another busy week in our lives. Since the students returned and things generally have returned back to pre-pandemic levels it has meant that work has been incredibly busy. After two years of having life on hold we are finally getting back to some sort of normal. But for me working at a University it means that we are returning to large in person events for the first time in years. We have been so busy at work and everyone is loving being back to the life we had pre-2020.

The week was busy but good, over the summer Emelia and one of her closest cheer friends Flo chatted about wanting to do some semi-private lessons together at cheer. The girls are both working at the same tumbling so they wanted to go together. This past week Emelia was at a private lesson with her coach and was finally able to get back a skill she lost just ahead of the pandemic. Emelia  trained so hard and finally got her back tuck on the floor without spot! We are so proud of her, she never gave up training to regain the skill. Sooooo proud of you boo!

After a very busy few weeks, plus an extremely emotional week the week before John and I were both so happy to finally get back to the trailer. We never imagined that we would have gone a month since our last trip. John and I were happy to able to have some time up at the trailer together. But what you might be wondering is where was Emelia? Well part of the reason we haven’t been at the trailer was only partly because John’s work schedule doesn’t always allow him to be up there, but the bigger part is Emelia’s want for a normal high school social life. After two years of having very little true social life she has been taking in everything that high school has to offer. She has been to school events, football games and this time was a big party she wanted to go to.

On Thursday Emelia messaged me to see if she could stay home on Friday night so she and her friends could go to a party. With some co-ordination with the twins mom we had plans that allowed the girls to go to the party and have a safe place to stay for the night. Without going into great details the party didn’t happen so the girls went with a group of friends to the Ilderton Fair for the night before coming back to our house to spend the night.

For John and I this gave us a night to ourselves and gave me the next day to do a big purge and clean out of the trailer to prepare for the end of the season. The camping season is sadly coming to an end if a few weeks but not before a big extended Thanksgiving weekend with friends. We are already on the countdown for next weekend for 4 days at the trailer.
