They’re hopeful, we’re happy!

I am finally getting my first dose of the COVID vaccine this week!

After what seemed like a really slow rollout of the COVID vaccine in Canada, things have picked up in a big way! I got my first dose way back in March because I am a primary caregiver for Mom & Dad in LTC and it was required to keep them safe. Danielle got her first dose in April. We weren’t sure until the last few weeks when or if Emelia would be able to get hers. After Pfizer was tested and approved in Canada for 12 & up two weeks ago, and given the vaccination rate uptick in Canada, it was announced that vaccinations for 12 & up would begin this week and Danielle managed to get Emelia booked in for Tuesday!

So, as of Tuesday this house will all have received their first dose! And better news is the wave of second doses has moved up. When I got my first dose, I was given a date of July 4th, but I got a note this week that those that wanted their second dose could request it, so I have moved up almost a full month so in a few weeks I will be fully vaccinated! And word is the same will happen for Danielle too. The hope is we can all be fully vaccinated by some time in July. And that some semblance of the before COVID times comes back.

While we can only visit the trailer for 24 hours at a time, and for the purposes of maintenance and season ready-getting we’ve been enjoying the time there—even if it is for work-visits. This weekend we got back up to the trailer to continue working on the outdoor kitchen on the deck. We built it out of pallet wood and the more progress we make the more happy I am with how it is turning out. I was super skeptical before we got into the construction side. Hell, I was even quit bitchy as I dismantled the 6 or so skids—especially the German-made, structurally sound ones we got from the high end motorcycle dealership. By the time we wrapped up work on it yesterday we had something that actually resembled our vision of what we wanted. And we were able to cook supper on it too!

While at the trailer, we got the news that the stay at home order is set to end on Thursday and they (park staff) were anticipating it being lifted which means while there still will be restrictions similar to last year, we won’t be restricted to only staying for 24 hours or less which is amazing news! They’re super hopeful that it will be happening Thursday and we’re super happy to be able to stay at the trailer longer than a night. It’s good because we’re close to wrapping up all the projects we had to do, and are pretty much ready to go to the trailer to relax! Well, that and ride the G2G Rail Trail!

This week was a busy one at work, there was some staffing changes and that meant a fair bit of upheaval. We had a lot to do to keep on top of everything and being somewhat short staffed we had to shuffle things to make sure we got all the work done. The next few weeks will likely be even busier as the province starts to slowly reopen. The more things open up in the country the busier we will get.

With work being busier getting to the trailer is even more of an escape. The restrictions have meant that we haven’t really been able to use the trailer, this weekend with John having the full weekend off we would have loved to be up there for the whole weekend. But even with limited access we have made the most of the time up there. The last few weekends we have been taking on some projects, the biggest one was to get the outdoor kitchen done. This weekend we got a ton done, we are about 75% done the outdoor kitchen, we got the rest of the landscaping done and reorganized the shed and storage. We are so happy with out our little summer home and we can’t wait to get up there as much as possible.

On Saturday we got some great news from the campground, one of the staff came over to let us know that they have been told by their governing body by the Ontario government that they can open the campground to seasonal campers so we now we have full access, there will be COVID restrictions but we can at least get back to our trailer for more than 24 hours at a time!

More amazing news is on the vaccine front, Canada that was really struggling with the rollout in the beginning but we now have strong supply and thankfully there hasnt been much vaccine resisitance so we are really doing great with getting needles in arms and getting people protected. A few weeks ago there was approval for Pfizer for 12+, so we were very excited when Canada approved for kids here. About 2 weeks ago it was announced that Ontario would be opening appointments soon, a week ago we were able to start booking and I was able to secure Emelia an appointment the second week in June, yesterday I got great news that I am able to get Emelia vaccinated on Tuesday with an earlier appointment. We are so relieved that so many of our friends and family are getting protected and we can start seeing a light at the end of this horrible tunnel.
