\"\"<\/a>I had a great week at the trailer with my parents and my cousins!<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>He said<\/h1>\n

Here we are at the end of another week vacation spent at the trailer where it felt wonderfully longer than the actual days we were off which is the perfect measure of success. While the weather was not in our favour for most of the week, it did not make a single bit of difference. Sure, I was having to work my ride schedule into the pockets of the day that could allow me to ride as dryly as possible. But, with a week of really no other obligations other than relaxing and enjoying each other’s company and get in as much time as we could at the fire pit as we could, it was the perfect problem to have.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>As we mentioned last week, the highlight to this week was that on Tuesday we not only had our nieces Abi & Zoe come up to spend a couple of days with us at the trailer, but also Emelia was going join us too, staying all the way Friday when we would all head back to London. With girls arriving earlier than Emelia we got the fire pit going so they could roast some marshmallows before they headed off to bed as Emelia wouldn’t be leaving London until after Cheer practice wrapped up at 9:15pm. By 10:30 we were the three if us, all at the fire pit enjoying adult beverages as we are all now at the age of majority\u2026 which is more nice than it is alarming that we have a legal-aged kid.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Wednesday the forecast left us rain dodging for a bit of the morning but I was able to get in my ride and then by the time I got back it was nice enough in the afternoon that we could take the girls into Goderich to play at the beach, hang out and then get some ice cream to close out our time there. The girls loved playing in the sand, the water, and Emelia loved being able to lie out with us and soak up some sun. The couple hours we spent there were a lot of fun and it was so great to have that time where all of us could fill our memories with more laughs in an afternoon than some of the other sadder moments that have permeated our last few years.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Wednesday night called for more fire pit and roasted marshmallows, and probably a little later than we should we got the girls to bed. Danielle, Emelia & I got to have some time\u2013just us<\/em>\u2013at the fire pit to close down another wonderful day. Thursday was another mixed bag of weather so we squeezed what we could out of the day with crafts, time at the playground and bouncy pillow before getting the girls dinner and then heading off to meet Testza at our halfway point to drop them off so they could go back home. It was a wonderful couple of days to spend with them up at the trailer and we’re already looking forward to when we can do that again.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Originally the wrap-up of this week’s vacation was my last bike race of the season on Saturday, but in a strange turn of events on Thursday while stepping up into the trailer \u00a0(a simple, innocuous thing I had done a million times), I felt my ankle go stiff, a sharp pain and then it took everything in me to maintain an upright position and not fall down\u2014going up three steps. That kept me off the bike all of Thursday and even Friday, while somewhat better, I was still very ginger and tentative at best. So, given that the race was the most difficult ones of the season with the most amount of climbs of all of them, I decided on Friday to ‘pull the plug’ and play it safe so as to not take the chance of injuring it much further. It sucked to miss it, but I felt certain I was making the right decision.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>That gave us Friday to get home and another couple of days to decompress and relax before diving knee-deep back into work, life and a whole new month: September which means back to school for Emelia and more workload for Danielle. Like I said this week felt like a good long time and I am coming off of it feeling like it was much longer which is the perfect way to wrap up what was one heck of a week off!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>She said<\/h1>\n

This week was exactly what we needed as a family. Without going into any real details, our sister in law and her family have been dealing with a lot of stress recently so we thought the best support we could give her is to give her a break and bring our nieces up for a long promised camping trip. We started our last vacation week with just John & I. We arrived later in the day on Saturday and with the rain in the forecast opted to have a date night and head to Cowbell for dinner. We have come to love this local brewery and restaurant over our last 7 seasons at the trailer and it was the perfect refuge from the rain. We had a nice quiet night there and headed back home for a few drinks and headed to bed. The next day it was more of the same forecast and unfortunately I was not packed for rain riding so John was off on his own for a ride while I hung out at the trailer.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Finally on Monday and Tuesday the weather cooperated and John and I were finally able to hit the trails together. The weather on our weeks off have been the tale of extremes, either extreme heat or lots of rain. So I have not been able to get on the G2G as much as I would by this time in the season. Once we were back on Tuesday John and I headed into Goderich to get more groceries and prep for our nieces to arrive. We met at the half way point between Auburn and Kitchener and started our visit with Abi & Zoe. We made our way back to the trailer and the girls quickly settled in, we were off to explore the park with them. They loved the bouncy pillow and park instantly. They were able to burn off some energy before coming back to the campfire for marshmallows. It wasn’t long before the girls were running low on energy and ready to settle in the trailer for the night. It was about an hour after that when Emelia arrived after her cheer training. We had an amazing visit around the campfire before we all crashed for the night.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The next morning started with more rain and a slower start for the day. Thankfully the rain didn’t last long at all and we were able to bring the girls around for more exploring. We had an amazing day and then made our way into Goderich so they could play at the beach and then jumped waves in Lake Huron before wrapping up the day getting ice cream. We came back, had dinner and another night around the fire. The girls again had the best time and crashed for the night.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Thursday was our day to say good-bye to the girls, we still had a full day, more time at the park and finally a swim in the pool before packing up to meet Testza again. Once the girls were picked up we came home and finished our last night with just the three of us around the fire, having drinks and lots and lots of laughs. Emelia is at the age and stage in her life that time off to come to the trailer is few and far between, in fact this is her first visit just her and no friends in tow in three summers. We cherish these moments because we know how fast life happens and how things can change in a blink of an eye.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
