\"\"<\/a>After working a lot at work this summer I am excited next week to have some family time at the trailer.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>He said<\/h1>\n

As I type this we are sitting at the fire pit at the trailer enjoying the warmth of the fire and the unseasonably cooler evening sunset. We’re at the start of our third week of vacation spent at the trailer this summer. Originally, the plan was to come up as soon as I was done work Friday night at 9pm. But, when we saw the forecast of rain for a good portion of Saturday and Sunday, we decided to take an easier run at getting up here, staying in London Friday night, getting in my daily ride there and then slowly packing and making our way up here yesterday at a much more leisurely pace in the afternoon. Both Danielle & I felt a huge sense of relief not making it a rush to get up here and increasing the potential of forgetting something over having the added benefit of waking already here, yesterday morning.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>We got to have a bit of a sleep in and then I got up to get out on the daily bike ride and got that done while Danielle got in a run to the grocery store for some final food things we needed. By 2pm were loaded and on our way to the trailer. Since there was rain starting pretty much after we arrived, we opted to go to Cowbell for dinner after we got the trailer settled. By the time we got back the rain had stopped and we were able to get a fire going and a good three hours at the fire pit before the next wave of showers was forecasted to start. We ended the evening with a movie night inside the trailer while the rain got started back up.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Surprisingly (for us), we managed sleeping in almost to 10am today after having a great sleep with a night that start to finish was rain\u2014and quite heavy at times. That rain continued on through the morning, and it wasn’t until almost 2pm before it stopped that I could go for my bike ride. With the winds being quite high, and the forecast up in the air, Danielle opted to stay back and I rode solo. It was nice to get out and be back on the G2G but I’d be lying if I said the direct headwind all the way back was any fun. It was more work than anything else. But, the nice part was when I got back and showered up I enjoyed a post ride beer (or two) at the fire pit as there was nowhere to be and nothing to do for any immediate time on our schedules.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>But, the best part of this week away is that not only will we have Abi & Zoe \u2013 our nieces<\/em> \u2013 join us for a couple of days this week, but more importantly Emelia is also coming up to spend a good portion of the week with us too! It will be the first time in quite a while that she has come up, just her, and not with friends and I am so excited about that. But, also I have a bike race this weekend and she actually asked if she could tag along and come to watch me race and cheer me on. I was so excited that she wanted to be part of that too! This week is shaping up to be one of our best weeks ever at the trailer, and I am so happy to have this space to get away and get together with those that mean the world to us!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>She said<\/h1>\n

Another week at the trailer is exactly what we needed. As summer is starting to wrap up we are here at the trailer again. Like most summers it feels like this one has flown by. Emelia has had lots of time with friends, beach trips, hanging out swimming at her friends pool and lots of trips to the bars living her best life. It is hard to believe we are only a few weeks until she is starting her second year at university and our lives will get busy all over again.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>For me work has been in a bit of a lull, still busy but a bit of the brief summer slowdown before things get really busy again with the school year starting back up. In the summer we have breaks from all our committee work so that frees me up to do a lot of other work, plan for the new year and get bigger projects under way. A few months ago I had a change in bosses and the change has been incredible. The new Associate Dean and I really click and have a great working relationship. I knew I was stressed before but the change and now great working realtionship only showed how hard it was for me at work. I now have 4 incredible leaders on my team and it has made all the difference.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>So the one thing I normally do not talk about here is me. I talk about our life, I talk about Emelia but I rarely talk about me. So as I just mentioned I had been really stressed, and have spoken before on this blog that I was working through some things. I have been pretty open in my life with those close to me with my challenges with my anxiety, but there was more that I had not really been able to name. Something that never felt ‘right’, it was talking to our family doctor and his language of the ‘noise’ in my head and lots of talking that we gave a name for it and was finally diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. It explained so much of how I have always felt that I processed things differently, struggled in other areas in my life and school growing up. It was trying to navigate support for Emelia as she is now an adult that things started to click.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I have said to John over the years since Emelia was diagnosed that I get her because we think often the same way, process things similarly. Well now we know why. It makes so much sense. So now what? A lot of this processing and figuring out meds that worked for me has made me really pull back and take care of myself. Adjusting to meds levels has been hard and magnified symptoms. John has been incredible as I finally talk about things I always pushed down thinking that everyone processed things the same way. It has given me a voice and understanding<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I am still working through. So as I am adjusting again to the new levels we are balancing out for my meds for both the ADHD and anxiety I am glad we have this week to have the quiet I need. I have finally put my needs first so I can feel more or in the case maybe less like myself. Putting boundaries up has never been something I have been great at, I have never been good at voicing what I really need. But with John’s support and our doctor I feel I am really getting there. And learning our this brain of mine works.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Well that was a bit heavier than I thought I would go this week but we always said this blog was going to be honest and we have always encouraged Emelia to be open about her struggles so I am leading by example I guess.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
