The fun for me this week was immediately after getting home from my bike race last Sunday, I had to strategically eat (after burning a lot of calories in a bike race) and be ready to begin a fast as of midnight as I would be officially in prep time for one of the joys of being about the age of 50\u2026 routine colonoscopies. My last one was in October 2022, so it was time again. I was scheduled for it Tuesday morning at 6:30am but Monday was all about not eating and eventually doing the prep to empty my entire digestive system which is so much fun<\/em>. But, the good news is the procedure was entirely routine and went off without a hiccup and I was back to eating regular food by noon on Tuesday. And even better was that nothing was found and I don’t need to have it done for another 5 years!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>This weekend I was participating in a fundraiser for a scholarship fund in honour of the daughter of one of my teammates on Team Cowbell for MS Ride<\/a>, who unfortunately passed away from a battle with cancer. Being that it was being held in Blyth and on the G2G, it was a no brainer for me to get involved after I did some scheduling gymnastics at work. What ended up happening is we were able to make a full weekend of it up at the trailer. So, Friday after I was done work at seven, we loaded up and were up at the trailer and sitting by the campfire by nine that night \u2013 able to watch a beautiful sunrise.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The next day was the fundraiser. With it being in Blyth I decided to ride over on the G2G to the starting point at the Blyth Arena. The event was an action-packed day of cycling, community, and celebration featuring a first annual poker run\u2013style team challenge. It centred in Blyth and the G2G \u2013 working back and forth between Auburn where our trailer is and Walton on the other side of Blyth, taking on fun pit stop challenges. I was on a team with three other teammates from my Cowbell team from MS Ride, but there was also another team of four from Cowbell. It was a lot of fun and there were a lot of people we know from the area and having participated in MS Ride for going on four or five years. It was an absolute blast, and such a good event to give Britt’s family a chance to heal from her loss, seeing how her community stepped up around her memory.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>And today, with the rain starting hard and heavy in the wee hours last night and carrying on through much of the day, Danielle and I got to take a much slower start to the day. We slept in, and had a slow lazy breakfast with coffee before cleaning up the trailer and heading back home in the middle of the afternoon. When we were \u00a0back and unpacked I got in my daily ride here, and officially closed out what was a truly fantastic weekend of friends, biking and fundraising for a very good cause. But, also it was just really nice to get two, back-to-back nights up at the trailer. That was probably the best part about this weekend!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The last week was exhausting but rewarding. Work has been so busy. We have a small but tight team at work making sure everything gets done. I am on a number of committees at work and lead a few big events. One of those big events was this week. But the hard work and longer days started before that. We have some big transitions at work that are tied into the start of July. There are a number of roles that change over in the beginning of July and one happens to be one of my supervisors, it is a huge role on campus so the change is a big one. I am part of the committee that is reviewing new candidates for this role and happy that everyone is in consideration are strong leaders and I have worked with them so the change will be a great one. So with that on top of Convocation has made for a very busy week. Convocation is a massive event each year, it is a small committee that plans a huge and important celebration for our graduates. The work is always worth it. I had the joy this year to see one of Emelia’s close friends and teammate from cheer graduate this week. I was able to sneak a pic with her and share with Emelia. Seeing students and they make this final push into true adulthood is so joyful and rewarding.The days of planning are long and I was beyond exhausted by the end of Thursday but it was so worth it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Needless to say this weekend was something I was really looking forward to. We haven’t been able to get to the \u00a0trailer yet for a full weekend I was so happy that we were able to get up there for a couple nights. As John talked about in his part he was busy for a large part of the day. This allowed me to have a full relaxing day, I puttered around the trailer, cleaning up the garden and a bit around the trailer but otherwise I sat on the deck with a coffee and read my book. Honestly it was exactly what I needed. The last few weeks\u2014hell last few months it felt like we have been running around and really busy. I didn’t realize how much I needed this quiet until I was in the middle of it. Letting my brain have a break from the constant noise was so needed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
