Black Friday Sale Got Us!

We got our new uniforms for Cheer and I love them!

This week was a bit of a strange one that was really focused on an early Black Friday Sale and getting Danielle a bike so that she could match my proclivity for going fast and going far. But more on that later. This week also had me spending more days working outside of our store than in it. Wednesday I was down to our Conestoga for some training. Thursday, while I was in-store, I wasn’t in store as I had a PD day to catch up on some training to prepare for our big all Manager meeting offsite to plan around our team’s development on Friday. So before I knew it, it was today it was my first day back in store being a Manager since Monday. It was good to be back as it was a busy week with a lot of mind calories burned.

And speaking of burning calories, this week I continued to embrace the unseasonably warmer weather and keep my rides more outdoors than indoors which was awesome. It’s crazy to think that while only getting the GT bike in May this year, I have managed to rack up 4,121 km on it! With today’s snow and the much earlier sunset, I know that I am on very limited time, but the goal really is to be able to get in just one ride in December to close down on eleven months out of twelve this year. And, of course you know what the goal will be next year! (I am looking at you, February!). But the bigger part of the cycling year I want to celebrate is that I set a goal of trying out a bike race or event this year and I actually ended up doing five! I’ve already started mental-mapping out next year and I am hoping to at least match this year’s events.

This week, Thursday to be precise, is a very big day! Emelia, who hasn’t always had the most ease with school, has absolutely shone and found her place in high school. Where we worried last year how she would do being small fish in a big pond, she has flourished well beyond expectations getting great grades and making lots of new friends and trying new things to boot! Last week, we found out Emelia made Honour Roll for her average last year which was 87.5%! We’re so proud of her! And the ceremony for all of the students who achieved this is this Thursday. You can bet your tuchus we will be there!

Lastly, what I alluded at the start, was we got Danielle a new bike. Well… a new eBike. We weren’t necessarily intending to do this just yet, as the idea was to research over the winter and find something that we could get in the Spring when it made sense because she could ride it more. But, a Black Friday Sale rolled around and a deal with significant enough savings on the model of bike that Stephanie (of The Sherwood’s fame) has and loved, that we couldn’t pass up. So before we knew it, our plans on Saturday turned into a trip down & back to Toronto to pick up her new eBike. The part I am most excited about is we will be able to do a lot more riding together, and longer distances. She will have less hip pain, and even less guilt about her perceived notion of dragging me down. I can’t wait until we can get out and I can take her on the bigger rides I do—both here in London and up at the trailer on the G2G!

This week was a bit of an odd and busy one. We had our normal training schedule for Emelia but on top of a trip to Toronto Emelia had a pretty busy week. Emelia has really taken to getting really involved at school even more this year. She plans on taking on more sports and more teams but she has also fallen in love with going to cheer on her school teams after school. Her school is known for their athletics and this year both the boys Junior football and Senior boys volleyball took the city title. Emelia and Cheyanne had an absolute blast.
Thursday night she really wanted to go cheer on the boys volleyball team so one of her best friends Cheyanne came over after school and I took the girls over to Fanshawe College to cheer the boys on. The boys dominated and easily took the city title and are off to WOSSA this coming Wednesday. Emelia and Anna who are part of the SAA (Student Athletics Association) so they will be helping out at the game. The girls are super excited!
Most of the rest of the mid-week for us was taken up with work and then after work researching e-bikes. John and I both love to cycle, we love doing it together but due to complications with my pregnancy and then labour with Emelia I have significant nerve damage in my left hip. What this means that no matter how much I work out, no matter how fit I am, I have limits. I find this a lot in cycling. When the nerves flair up my leg feels like cement. So this has meant that we go on shorter rides together and I cannot go nearly as fast as John can. We have looked into more physio and medical options but honestly its not going to ever be 100%. So this is where the conversation came with changing my bike to an eBike. I was very reluctant about purchasing yet another bike but after a lot of research and talking with Stephanie and Justin who both have eBikes, we realized this was my best option.
The plan was originally to save and research over the winter and buy in the spring. But then Black Friday sales hit early at the same place Steph and Justin got their bikes. That started the conversation all over again. Long story short we found the perfect bike for me in the price range I was comfortable being in. I did end up buying a bike exactly like Steph’s bike so I know that I am getting a good one! We drove down Saturday to Toronto to pick it up and made our way home. Our hope to get out and for a ride when we got home got cancelled because we got our first real snow yesterday. I am hoping I can get out at least a couple times with John soon before I have to wait until the spring.
Now this brings me to today, today Emelia had her normal cheer practice. I finally got a chance to see a bit more of the stunting being brought together. Their first competition is two weeks today so the girls are all getting excited and nervous at the same time. But what really anchored their excitement today was receiving their new uniforms! The girls all seem to love them, we know Emelia does for sure.
Next week is going to be another really busy one but this brings us closer to the big event in two weeks so we cannot wait!
