The prefect end to a perfect summer!

I got to spend the weekend with Anna & Grace at their cottage and that was fun!!!

So, while last weekend was focused on us going off in a million different directions over the course of the weekend, this weekend was very much focused on us going the directions we like to do when we do! So, by the time the dust had settled on this past weekend, we were resigned to spending as much time as we could relaxing at the trailer this week. I was off work as of Thursday at 6pm, and Danielle was off as of Friday at 4pm. By dinner time, we were relaxing by the fire.

The only wrinkle was that Emelia wasn’t with us. She was invited to Anna & Grace’s cottage in Ipperwash. She was there from Thursday evening and we picked her up today. By all counts she had an absolute blast. That left Danielle & I the weekend at our ‘cottage’ to recharge which was really nice. We got out for a ride together on the G2G yesterday. And then, spent the afternoon reworking the height of the wood cable spool that we use a table on the deck to make it more conducive as a foot rest for our morning coffee. It was a very productive day.

With the Dusty Nostril bike race out of the way last weekend, it meant it was time to start thinking about my last, weekend at racing! With another event coming up in September, and one that would work into my schedule, it was time to confirm the last one of my inaugural season in the County Grand Fondo. Way back at the start of the year when I was trying to plan out events, County Grand Fondo was on my radar. And given how my schedule has worked out, it looks like this race will be the one to close out my season!

So while we. have been thinking about how and what to do this week while we relax at the trailer, I have been also working out the plan to navigate my last race of the season. That has been the big surprise of the summer. When I started biking more frequently, the focus never on doing it competitively—it was on having fun. But after I entered the Paris To Ancaster in April and found I liked it, that’s I decided to try and do an event a month for the summer. And it’s been really great!

This week was another very busy one, work has been so busy and we are in the depths of all the after work appointments for Emelia before school is back.

Tuesday Emelia was back at practice for the first time since their choreography camp. It was the first time I was able to watch and see the tricks and routine that had started to be built. The kids worked so hard and it was amazing watching them all work together as a team to start building this incredible routine. They don’t compete until the end of November but that will come up fast and I know that the coaches will have them all ready. Emelia is loving her team, her new routine and the bonus is that she and Olivia are back together for their stunt group. We cannot wait to watch their progress over the next few months.

The focus for us this week was getting a ton of appointments done for Emelia before school is back. She has seen the dentist, her eye doctor, demonologist and we found her some new glasses that should come in hopefully right as school starts. The summer is flying by and this last week we are trying to jam in as much family time while still getting Emelia ready for school.

This week is going to be exactly what we all needed. This is our full week off for the summer. Emelia started her vacation week by going to the Carter’s cottage on Thursday and we picked her up today. The cottage has really become a second summer home for Emelia. All the girls best summer memories have been tied to it. Since the Carter’s got the cottage in 2013 Emelia has spent countless weekends up there with the girls. I love watching how strong their friendship bond has stayed, even through some rough patches the girls always come back together and their friendship is stronger than ever. We know this will be a lifelong friendship that is already 11 years in the making.

The rest of this week will be all about spending time with friends and family. Our close friends Danielle, Greg and Kathleen are here for the week, my sister and nephew are coming up next weekend and our friends Tina and Fern are also coming up. We even get to get to know Olivia’s boyfriend Hunter a bit better since he is coming as well. It will be a fun filled week for sure, the best way to end a fun and memorable summer!
