I’m over it…

I had a great week, got to spend lots of time with friends!

By Sunday last week, I was on day 6 of my quarantine with 1 more day to go before I could return to life outside of the bedroom. The rapid test I did on Sunday still showed positive, but the second line was very faint. By Monday’s test, the second line was all but not existent—I wouldn’t consider myself fully negative but definitely on my way there for sure. And, when it came to symptoms I was pretty much free and clear. When it came down to it, I had 12 hours of acute systems and then progressively got better over the next week. By Tuesday I was good to return to regular life and it couldn’t have come any sooner as I was stir crazy for sure.

While the timing wasn’t ideal from a work stand point, the fact that I got COVID when I did actually worked out for the best given that I was able to in and out of it in 8 days. It happened after our last week of vacation, but well enough ahead of my next cycle race (this upcoming weekend), The Dusty Nostril. And, our other week off at the trailer starts the week after that. I spent over two years evading COVID, and when it finally found me thanks to the vaccines and boosters my experience was pretty much nothing like the horror stories we’d heard about for over two years.

So, with life going back to normal Tuesday I was able to get back to bike rides outside so I could get ready for the race. The one thing I was worried about was my lung capacity post COVID as I have heard people spend months until they feel fully recovered. While I didn’t feel 100% back, I certainly was surprised to see how good I was feeling and how I was able to just get right back at it. So, I’m as ready as I’ll ever be for this race and I’m kind of excited about it because is a different format in that you have a 23km loop – some of it on the G2G Rail Trail – and you see how many laps you can do in 8 hours. It goes this Sunday so next week I’ll be able to report on how it went.

This week gave me Friday and Sunday as my days off so with having a 10-7 on Saturday I decided after work Thursday I would head up to the trailer and spend the weekend there—Danielle & Emelia would meet me there Friday after Danielle was done work. Given then it’s only an hour from London I could easily leave in for work and back to the trailer after. After spending over a week quarantined in our bedroom it felt so great to be back at the trailer able to sit around the camp fire every evening.

This week for us was more of life as normal latetly. After a week of working at home with John clear and both Emelia and staying negative I was able to return to the office. As much I am beyond grateful for my home office that allowed me to work from home I was so happy to be back in the office. Work right now is so busy that being back in the thick of the office was much better this past week.

The whole week was busy for us, John was back to work and Emelia had a very full week with sports and lots of times with her friends. Emelia was back at cheer after a week off and at her softball game. Emelia has just fallen in love with softball, I think more about the team and the sense of being part of a group. The girls on the team have become so close and they are all hoping to be back together again next season. Emelia has come so far from the kid at the beginning of the year who had no clue about the sport at all to really being a valued played on the team. One of her coaches even pulled me aside at her game this week to tell me by far Emelia was the most improved player on the team this year, that you would never know after a few games she had never played the sport. This made us and Emelia so proud!

The rest of the week was mostly for Emelia about spending as much time with various friends and then getting ready for the weekend. Friday I worked from home again and after picking Emelia up from the mall where she and her friend were doing some back to school shopping we headed right up to the trailer. After missing last weekend and missing next weekend we wanted to spend as much time as we could there. The whole weekend was all about taking it easy and relaxing because this next week and next weekend are going to be insanely busy for us! That is all for me this week, going to relax before having be back in the grind again for another week.
