Not going opposite directions…

Season X of Cheer starts this week—I am very excited!

This weekend felt a lot more regular for us. The last few weeks have been fairly busy for sure. And then add on that I worked through the last couple of weekends that put Danielle & Emelia and then I at the trailer for the most part at opposite times, it has felt a lot like we’re coming and going opposite directions. Last weekend we didn’t have any crossover time at the trailer and I think we were all feeling it. I worked Monday, and then had 2 days off and 1 day of review writing, so as soon as I could, I was up to the trailer Tuesday to stay there for 3 straight days, because my review writing day could happen really anywhere I was.

The first job at hand when I got up there was to finish the work on the outdoor kitchen, adding the roof. A few weeks ago I got started on the frame work for it. As soon as I had picked up the 3×8 sheet of clear corrugated PVC roofing panel at Home Depot, I was off to the trailer for a few days of building, biking and relaxation. Not wanting to waste a moment, as soon as I got there I had the panel mounted and the roof for the outdoor kitchen all done. I sent off pics to Danielle & Emelia to see if they would sign off on the job as complete and they did! All that is left is the sign that Emelia will make for it, and then get some string lights too!

With that work out of the way, and as soon as got there (with intention) the only thing I had left to do was to relax and ride my bike. Oh and write reviews. But, the first order was relax and that I did for sure that first night, solo by the campfire. It is so quiet at Auburn during the week. The transients are usually not there and a lot of the seasonals – like us – are off into their work week. And that has definitely been the case the last couple of times I have been there solo. And while I would much rather have Danielle & Emelia there with me, it was surprising to me just how much I needed that time. And with all that quiet I was able also to make a serious dent in my review writing to boot.

But, the best part about being up at the trailer was being able to get back out on the G2G Rail Trail on the daily. I had some gorgeous weather each day and enjoyed the time to myself and my GT. I have added a little bit to the ride, going all the way in to Blyth and getting up to the underpass east of Byth and then heading back. It ends up being 26 km round trip and makes for a great spot to take a pic (see the pic here). It was so great to be able to wake when I wanted to each day and then hit the trail when I was ready. No alarm clocks for 3 straight mornings was glorious (albeit one of those days was in London).

This weekend though was the best, because while I worked Friday and Saturday, the plan for Danielle & Emelia was to go up to the trailer Saturday morning because Emelia had Cheer open gym Friday night. And then I was heading to the trailer the second I was done work. This put us all at the trailer at the same time for the first time in a couple of weeks. And none of us had anything to do today but hangout together. The day started with a G2G bike ride with Justin, Steph & I, and then the rest of the day was us hanging out together. And when it came time to go home, we were all going home together as well! It was the perfect way to close out a week, and one that I didn’t know I needed that much until I had it!

This week felt like a week we were able to recharge a bit. With work, appointments, being on opposite schedules plus Emelia’s babysitting, school and sports it felt like we have been going constantly. This past week Emelia had a softball game cancelled due to weather that gave us a much needed night off. Our week coming up is so busy that it was perfect we were able to reconnect as a family this past weekend.

One thing we have loved about Emelia’s involvement in sports is our extending friendships with the families around the sport. We have lasting friendships through Emelia’s gymnastics and now we are making some of the same connections through cheer. Over the last couple years we have felt disconnected with Emelia’s sports due to covid. But a lot of that changed in the last few months with Cheer. Mainly to our now new friend Fred who started reaching out to the families to have the parents connect at competitions. From that has evolved into some amazing friendships. The kids just adore each other and we have found even more like minded families.

A few weeks ago Fred, Heather, Keira, Marion, Rob and Flo all came up to the trailer for the day. The kids had an absolute blast. Emelia absolutely adores the girls and we really like their families. So we decided that we would invite some of the kids to come up next weekend to spend the weekend. What I love about this friendship is that the parents genuinely adore the entire sports process and the kids. Our friend Fred even joined me at Emelia’s softball game this week to cheer her on. It meant the whole world to her that he wanted to come cheer her on.

As I said this coming week is going to be a very busy one. Emelia has two softball games, she babysits two days and she is about to start her new season at cheer. She cannot wait! This week will fly by in a second I am sure and before we know it will be the weekend and we will have a full campground full of teenagers having the times of their lives! The countdown is on!!!
