Well, the weekend finally came where we put the trailer away for the season and called an end to the 2021 camping season. As much as it isn’t our favourite thing to do, having the break during the winter makes us appreciate the return to camping season all the more when it comes back. We fell into seasonal camping as a solution to a global pandemic and not being sure how we could camp with the world in various versions of lockdown, but we have been so delighted with this as our get-away and we couldn’t be happier docking our trailer there for the entire season. Ever since we pulled the trailer out Saturday we will be begin the countdown to our return. Officially we’re just over 6 months to the beginning the 2022 camping season!

With Danielle (and Emelia) going to Chatham to be with our friend Christine for her husband’s funeral last weekend, we had to move taking the trailer home to this weekend. The plan was to get up to the trailer reasonably early and spend the day getting the trailer packed up, the site prepared for winter, and then to bring the trailer to storage. We weren’t sure how long it would take, but were hopeful we wouldn’t need to the whole day to take care of it. And, with Danielle’s organized and well-planned approach we actually made way better time than I anticipated and we were actually back in town in the mid afternoon.

And the best part was, I even had time to test out my new toy,  a Mavic Mini drone that I got to take out and test fly around the trailer. A co-worker had just gotten the newer version of the drone so I was able to buy this one off him for a really great price. I have wanted one for like ever to use for camping videos, add in my passion for cycling and it made two uses that I would easily get my money’s worth out of the drone. With the fall colours in full force, I took the drone out to capture some video and pics when we first got to Auburn. The cool thing was in first flight I did I managed to catch an curious red tail hawk with video when he did a couple fly-bys to see what this whirring thing was.

So, with the trailer all packed up, and aside from the quick one-day trip out of storage to get it winterized and some warranty work done (LP regulator has been recalled), we begin the countdown to the next camping season. The months away from Auburn always serve to remind us how much we love it there. But, they also will afford us the time to focus on all the things around the house that go to the back burner once we use every spare moment escaping the city to get our much-loved get-away. And it will give me more time to learn how to fly the drone so I will be a pro come next camping and cycling season!

This weekend was a busy one. We had a quite start of the weekend with a quite family dinner for my birthday and then to bed early so we could have an early start of the day. We had a big day packing things up at the trailer. We love the trailer, we love our time there and we are sad that we are packing up for the season. We were in a good place since we started packing up the last full weekend we were there. Once we got to the trailer we finished packing up the inside and then moved on to the outside. We were packed up and heading home about 3 hours after we got there.

The trailer has really given our family a perfect escape from our day to day. With our crazy and unpredictable schedule we love that we can head up there as a family with friends.

The rest of life is going really well. Emelia is settling in to school so well – Emelia got her first progress report and some more tests home and she is just doing amazing in school. We are so proud of how hard she is working and we are blown away at the grades she is getting in all her classes. She is a different kid entirely. She is making great friends, staying to watch football with her friends and really diving into high school life. I hope these are the best years of her lives, after spending last weekend with my best friends from high school I am reminded what bonds you make in these years and I hope that Emelia is entering the best years of her life.

Next week things will hopefully be a bit quieter for us, easing into post camping life.
