The week we all needed!

I rode 16 km with Mummy & Daddy on the G2G Rail Trail!

With a strong sense that Emelia really needed it, and having a week off work that started this week on Thursday, Danielle and I hatched plans to pull Emelia out of school for the day so that we could spend the day together. Given that I had my new bike and she had hers, pert of that plan was for her and I to get out for a rip on the Thames Valley Parkway. But, first on the radar was a trip to the trailer to check on the fridge that we’re having some problems with. So after I had my weekly COVID test done (27 straight negatives, baby!), and had gone for my daily 17km bike ride, Emelia and I were off for a road trip to the trailer where she was the music DJ for the trip. I’ll give you one guess what the conversation and music theme was… If you don’t guess RuPaul, you don’t know Emelia right now.

So yah, spoiler alert, yes the fridge in the trailer isn’t working which was confirmed by our visit. But, the potential good news is we’re 4 days inside the date 2 years ago when we took possession of the trailer and the fridge according to Dometic’s (the fridge brand) website, they have at the very least a 2 year warranty. We’ve submitted a work order with CanAm where we bought the trailer which establishes the date that we encountered the problem, now it’s all up to sorting out what the warranty process looks like and how we can get it fixed. Thank G-D that we had inherited Mom & Dad’s old beer fridge which we initially planned for our BBQ kitchen setup, but now can use in place of the Dometic while we get it sorted out.

At any rate, the drive up and back Emelia talked my ear off about all things RuPaul and it was an absolute joy to listen to her talk about something she loves so much. The added kicker is that several of my coworkers are also fans of the show so it gives us something that she enjoys talking about. By the time we got back home it was usually Emelia’s post school workout time, so she was more than willing to forego the workout in the basement to get out on the Thames Valley Parkwayand go for a bike ride with me. She wasn’t sure if she’d be able to go far as she was feeling tired from a not great sleep the night before and she had ‘road legs’ from spending 2 hours in the truck, but in the end she soldiered through and we rode 17km down to the city centre and back!

By the time Saturday morning rolled around, and with our 24 hour trailer visits allowed, we headed out early to drop the bar fridge off at the trailer and spend the day at the site doing more clean up. Because the three of us all now have good bikes, Danielle & Emelia agreed to join me on my very first run on the G2G Rail Trail for the season. Within an hour of getting to the trailer, the fridge unloaded, we were on our way to getting out for a bike ride together. It was awesome—Danielle got to ride at her own pace and Emelia kept pace with me! It was unsurprising given her level of cardio from Cheer and her own daily Apple Fitness workouts.  But, it was so great to have the entire fam-jam along for the ride and being into biking along with me!

We managed to get a bunch of tidying done, some branches pruned, and the temp fridge set up as our back up. After a day of workouts and work, we were able to relax by the fire pit and have a tiny taste of what we are so looking forward to this summer, the whole camping enchilada! This morning we were up ealry-ish and I snuck in a solo run on the G2G Rail Trail before we packed up and headed back home for the day. The plan is for me to make a stop up there one day this week to drop off more stuff for the season – hopefully the wood for the deck project. And then, we’re going to go up again next weekend to continue the work on the deck project. While it is very limited visits right now, this tiny bit of being able to get there, has really felt like a somewhat return to normalcy—or at the very least that we me get there!

What a week! Emelia started Monday with hitting the emotional wall so much that we chatted with her teacher that we wanted to find a pocket to take Emelia out of school so she could have a mental break from the stresses of online school and her managing her mental health and ADHD. After all of the chats we decided that Thursday John would take her out of school and have a daddy/daughter day.

Emelia like her parents is a fitness lover so it didn’t take much convincing to take her out of school to head to the trailer and to go out for a ride with her dad. I know John cherished this day with her. The day trip up to the trailer was a great mental health break but it had a camp set up purpose. Last weekend when we set up the trailer we noticed that the camp that the fridge wasn’t cooling and that it was making a strange noise. I asked John to head to the trailer so he could see if it was getting cooler. Sadly it wasn’t at all, we did some trouble shooting, some research we figured out what was going on, and it’s not a cheap repair. Now there is hope, after doing some more research there is a warranty through the manufacturer of the fridge and it should be covered in some capacity. At this point any coverage would be helpful. It will be a few weeks until we can get the replacement part in to get fixed but we have found a work around. None of this is ideal but it is what it is.

After a long week we were more than ready to head back to the trailer to get some more work done and spend a night at our happy place. We really needed this. As much as we would love to be there without restrictions it was so good to even be up with the night, let Emelia to have some sense of normal, time with one of her best friends and unplugging from the world.

To wrap up the weekend we headed back home from the trailer a bit earlier because Emelia had a big event. Again things this year aren’t normal. Today was Emelia’s first banquet with her cheer team. Normally this is a huge event, the kids dress up and it’s a big party, this year it was virtual. In spite of the smaller scale event Emelia loved it. She won the most consistent athlete award and we could not be more proud of her and everything she overcame this year. She loves her team, her gym and loved to celebrate everything these kids have overcome this year.
